“Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.” Colossians 2:6-7
How beautiful it is to witness churches from different nations building relationships, praying for one another, and caring for one another! We have had this privilege in various ways through out years of involvement in Honduras, and one of my favorite times to see this lived out is during our Ladies’ Day events.
Ladies’ Day in Honduras
This annual event, which began in 2011, is a collaboration between the leaders of the 4 El Camino de la Vida Churches and believers in the United States. Similar to a women’s tea, it is a one-day event centered around worshipping Christ through song, the teaching of the Word, and fellowship. The day includes lunch, games, a craft, and a testimony, and when the guests leave, they are gifted a bag of food and hygiene items. The teaching from the Word either provides an overview of a book of the Bible or highlights a particular woman from Scripture, and it typically corresponds with what the ladies are studying throughout the year.
Over the course of a week, a team from the states in conjunction with Melvin & Carol Zelaya and other hermanos in Honduras execute a pre-planned program in each of the 4 churches. The event is open by invitation, first to those sisters who are members of the churches, then extended to neighbors and friends.
Mission of Ladies’ Day
The main purpose is twofold: to exhort and encourage the saints and to share the Good News with unbelievers. Also, the desire is to live out Gospel generosity by providing food that may last many of these families a month or more. The majority of these ladies do not have opportunities to take part in events such as these, and it is a very special occasion for them. The Lord has used these events to bring quite a few to faith in Christ and to bless and encourage those who are faithful and persevering.
Get Involved!
There are several ways to get involved!
Prayers are coveted!
Please pray for the team, that “the sharing of their faith may become effective” (Philemon 6).
Pray for the believers who attend, that “their hearts will be refreshed.” (Philemon 7)
Pray that those who don’t know Christ would confess that Jesus is Lord and believe in their hearts and be saved (Romans 10:8-10).
Donations are needed!
Monetary donations for the food bags and hygiene items are greatly appreciated! Typically, we provide $25+ worth of food for over 200 ladies, plus each one receives lunch and a craft. Approximately $6000 in total donations are needed.
In addition, Spanish Bibles and theological resources are helpful because the options in Honduras are limited and expensive. Your donations can help us purchase these.
Tax-deductible donations can be sent to:
