Let the elders who rule well be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in preaching and teaching.
-I Timothy 5:17
Operation Double Honors aims to serve and bless our Gospel co-laborers in Honduras. This includes pastors, elders, and deacons who faithfully serve the Lord Jesus in their local congregations. Unlike in the U.S., the poverty of their church families means these men must sustain themselves as bi-vocational ministers of God’s Word. Operación Doble Honor seeks to serve these men with a Barnabas-like ministry in a number of ways. Read more, and pray about how you might get involved. Here are a few photo highlights from the 2024 Double Honor trip….
Biblical Training
Pastors in the United States might occassionally get some time away from ministry to attend a pastoral conference like ShepCon, Together for the Gospel, Basics, etc. But our brothers in Honduras don’t have the time or money to stop and rest. So, we’re taking the conference to them. These brothers will take a breather from pulpit ministry to look at God’s Word afresh in a relaxed setting. This year’s preaching text is I Peter 1:1-9.
Study Resources
Doctrinally sound books & resources are both scarce and costly in Latin America. Since these local churches do not have the means to help build pastoral libraries, we desire to help. We will purchase and deliver books that our friends have requested as well as a few additional gifts that we pray will strengthen their ministry. Financial gifts are appreciated and will help buy books and cover overweight luggage charges.
Pastoral Library
Several of the El Camino de La Vida elders are currently in a seminary program through SEPE Honduras, and would be blessed with help in getting printed copies of their text books. The scarcity of theologically reputable book stores in the country mean that bringing these books down will aid them as they study and learn to more effectively handle God’s Word (2 Timothy 2:15). Here is the year’s book list:
1. Abner Chou: La Hermenéutica de Los Escritores Bíblicos
2. Giese & Brent: Compendio para Entender el Antiguo Testamento
3. Sugel Michelén: De parte de Dios y delante de Dios
4. Nuevo Testamento: Interlineal Griego y Español
Christmas Offering
It’s Latin American tradition that most professionals are paid an annual Christmas bonus. As a result, all goods and services cost more at year-end. Pastors’ families are particular prone to feel this extra strain on their budgets. As a result, we desire to make sure that can come alongside their local churches and share a year-end gift to help them care for their own households. We’ve been able to help with new clothes for their kids, a new piece of furniture, an unforeseen medical expense or an urgent home repair.
Get Involved
Send a Book: Sponsor a pastor through a financial gift. You can help with providing books, a Christmas offering, and a time of spiritual refreshment in God’s Word.
Pray: Meditate on I Peter 1:3-9, and ask the Holy Spirit to permit this text to bear fruit in the life of the preacher and the congregations that will receive it.
Pray for Nixon, Harold, Luis, Melvin, Joel, Ernesto, Josué, Roy, and the churches that they faithfully serve.
